Silver Dove Lapel Pin

Commissioned by a very special man who had a favourite Japanese brush drawing of a dove on his business card, which he asked me to recreate as jewellery. 

The design process focused on how to retain the sense of a flying bird using metal instead of delicate brush strokes and still include the level of detail in the drawing.

After discussing different design options, we agreed that the perfect solution was to create the wings in filigree to give a light and airy feel, as if the dove is taking off in flight, while the body would be made in solid 925-sterling silver sheet to give the design presence. 

The final result is elegant, just like the man himself.
